Cosmetic Fillings
We have been telling you over and over again that plaque and bacteria are the major cause of tooth decay. That is true and the reason brushing and flossing are so important to preventing cavities. Unfortunately, other issues cause tooth decay, including certain medications. When dealing with tooth decay and restoration, cosmetic fillings may be a good option.
Cosmetic fillings are typically quick procedures, depending on the number of teeth needing to be filled. The filling material hardens in a matter of seconds during the direct inlay process, eliminating any waiting or healing period.
The cosmetic fillings are strong and long-lasting, making the fillings viable for up to 10 years. If damage or wear begins to show any point, replacement is quick and simple.
Cosmetic fillings are available in several types of materials. Silver amalgam is useful on back teeth where the silver color is less visible. Filling material that can be matched to the color of the rest of the teeth is used for front teeth, making the repairs undetectable and natural-looking. The color-matching materials are composite resin and porcelain. Ceramic is used for veneers and crowns, as well as filling throughout the mouth.
