Extractions
The experts at the Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry may discover a reason to suggest a tooth extraction. Extractions are not recommended lightly. It would be the last resort offered as the primary goal of any dental office is to retain as many natural teeth as possible throughout a patient’s entire adulthood.
If an extraction is needed, our staff strives to keep the patient as comfortable as possible. The area around the tooth to be removed will be completely numbed to be sure the patient does not experience any pain. If the anesthesia should begin to wear off before the procedure is finished, more anesthesia can be administered.
When the area is numb, the dentist will gently rock the tooth back and forth to loosen it from the bone. Ideally, the tooth will be removed in one piece, but if already damaged or weakened, it may come out in several pieces.
An extraction is an extremely simple procedure that usually takes very little time, but due to the bad reputation, many patients are terrified of having their teeth pulled. Knowing what is going to happen ahead of time helps to allay fears.
